Synopsis:

Rakugou, a traditional form of storytelling, requires years of practice for an apprentice to ensure he or she reaches the pinnacle of shinoshi. For as long as she can remember, Akane Ozaki has been a fan of her father Tohru’s Rakugu performances. Peering through the door, he spent hours looking at and imitating their creations.

To Toro, the only thing standing between him and her is the quest for promotion by the audience and the highly rated Rokugo Master, Izu Arakawa. Despite performing well, Tohru is expelled from Rakugu Academy after an exam. This leads her to abandon Rakugu altogether and settle for a normal job, breaking her daughter’s heart.

Filled with grief and rage, Akane now seeks revenge against a man who refuses to acknowledge the wisdom behind her father’s Rakugo style. He requests Toro’s former Rakugu mentor, Shiguma Arakawa, to hold him under his palm. But Shiguma feels he has another student after doing the same to his father six years later. In order to test if there is a way to enter the world of Rakugou, Shiguma encourages Akane to prove her interest by performing in front of an audience.
